All three kids had a hand in writing this one, but this is really secretly aimed at parents. Anyone who thinks they can battle with, or talk reasonably to a two-year-old who has decided against bedtime, is kind of a fool. Still, it isn't easy.... but you just have to roll with it. Go watch Letterman. Or, let them write a song about it.
lyrics
Bedtime
Why does everyone keep telling me it’s bedtime?
Why does everyone keep saying I’m ready for bed?
I wish that everyone stops saying I’ll be grumpy in the morning,
‘Cause I’m grumpy now, that’s what I said.
Just because it’s dark outside
Doesn’t mean I’m ready to go to bed,
Just because you say I’m tired
Doesn’t mean I am a sleepyhead
There is so much to do,
It may be bedtime for you,
But I’m gonna stay up late, there’s nothing you can do
I got a bunch of books that aren’t gonna read themselves,
I got a bunch of stuffed animals that won’t stay on a shelf,
I think I need a drink of water,
And no, it won’t make me pee,
I’m gonna play and play all night, hey - are you with me?
Are you with me????
Just because you say it’s time
It doesn’t mean I’m ready to go to bed
Just because you want me quiet,
Doesn’t mean there’ll be peace ahead
I don’t want one more story,
When we could be reading ten
And once they are all done,
What’ll we do then?
Can we watch Letterman?
I wish that everyone ‘d stop telling me it’s bedtime,
I wish that everyone’d stop telling me I’m ready for bed
I wish that everyone stops saying I’ll be grumpy in the morning,
‘Cause I’m grumpy now, I’m grumpy, that’s what I said
Just because it’s dark outside
Doesn’t mean I’m ready to go to bed,
Just because you say I’m tired
Doesn’t mean I am a sleepyhead
There is so much to do,
It may be bedtime for you,
But I’m gonna stay up late, there’s nothing you can do
There’s nothing you can do
I’m gonna stay up late, there’s nothing you can do.
